SPEECHWRITING
Type
Speeches are constructed to demonstrate, entertain, inform, and persuade a specific audience. However, these aren’t mutually exclusive. You can use an entertaining style to persuade an audience to buy your product, or use a demonstrative style to inform people a new product line. All speeches are developed around an overriding theme, such as improving sales numbers or reducing employee accidents.
Style
Words are often one or two syllables, and match the way audience members speak. Sentences are short and to-the-point. Long words and sentence structures are taboo, since an audience member’s attention can easily wander or get lost in a convoluted message.
